Finding Historic Maryland Newspapers Online

Afro-American Black History Vault digitized editions of the newspaper over the last 100 years.
 
Carroll County Times Digital Archive, 1933-2011 includes full-text and images. Basic and advanced search or browse by date.

Chronicling America: Historic American NewspapersBaltimore American_titanic disaster_1912 from 1836-1922. Also includes a directory of U.S. Newspapers, 1690 to present.

Google News- Newspaper Archive Historic newspapers from around the world. Search Maryland newspapers by title, subject or advanced search.

Maryland Early State Records Online (1802-1947) Scanned microfilm images that can be browsed by date. Includes the Cambridge Chronicle, Maryland Gazette, Baltimore Clipper, Whig newspapers, and more from the Maryland State Archives.

Newspaper Archive- Maryland includes historic Maryland newspapers as early as 1802 as well as some current titles.  Free one week trial, but limited to two views per day without paid subscription.

Newspaper Archives  1690–2007, All 50 States List of historic and current Maryland papers from the Newspaper Archives and Recent Obituaries databases at GenealogyBank. Searches are free, but subscription is necessary to view articles. Check our holdings to see if newspaper titles are available at the Library.

Preserving Somerset: A Digital Collection  Includes Somerset County newspapers back to the early nineteenth century in addition to judicial and administrative county records from the seventeenth century.

Cyndi’s List-Maryland Newspapers A hub for genealogists and contains a list of newspapers in Maryland that are accessible free and through paid subscriptions.

Familysearch List of Maryland historic papers. Contains listings of a few free newspapers, but also locations of newspaper collections, indexes and guides.  

Guide to Maryland Newspapers-Maryland State Archives An index to historic newspapers. Search by date, title or place of publication. Find newspaper titles and search Google Newspaper Archive.

Historic Newspaper Indexing Project- Washington County Free Library Ten Hagerstown, Maryland newspapers online covering 1845-1854 and 1860-65. Print editions also available in the Maryland Department.

Index to St. Mary's Beacon  Searchable index for the period 1852-1890 to the St. Mary's County (Southern Maryland) weekly that was published though 1980.  For access to articles found in the index or in later issues, please contact the Maryland or Periodicals Departments.
