Material Pickup & Return
Learn how to pick up and return books, DVDs, and more at Pratt Library locations.
Picking Up Materials
Use one of the following methods to pick up physical items from the Pratt Library collection.
In person: Pratt locations are open at 25% capacity with COVID-19 safety procedures in place. Customers can come into the building to pick up holds, or browse the collection and check out materials in-person. Self-checkout is available at select locations.
Sidewalk Service: We recognize that some customers may not be ready or able to come to the counter inside the library, so we are continuing Sidewalk Service appointments at all Pratt locations.
Books by Mail: Baltimore City residents can have materials mailed to them for free.
Looking for a book that’s not in our catalog? Marina Interlibrary Loan is a free, statewide interlibrary loan system for requesting books your Library does not own from public libraries across the country.
Pratt materials can be returned to any Pratt location using the outdoor book drop. Please use the book drops to return all library items except for digital devices and Library of Things items, which must be returned in person at the counter. All returned items are quarantined for 48 hours.
Book by Mail items can be returned via book drop, or by mail. Customers will receive a shipping label with their order but will be responsible for return postage costs.
Sanitation & Quarantine
The Pratt Library is following best practices for safety provided by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) by quarantining all incoming materials for 48 hours.
Staff will begin checking in items after the 48 hour quarantine period is complete. Depending on the day and time returned, you should expect to see items removed from your account within one (1) week. If items are still showing on your account after one week, please contact the library where you returned your materials. You may still enjoy your full borrowing period as items are backdated in our system to account for this delay.
