What Do Kids Love About the Waverly Branch Library?

Libraries are a vital part of the community. They are storehouses of information. Some may say that the library is a great community center for people to gather and socialize. Many come to check out some great books or to use the computers. We hope that everyone will always have a great experience. Our young people really seem to enjoy visiting their Waverly Branch library. Check out some winning drawings from our kids. The following pictures were a part of our Waverly Bookfest 2009 Drawing Competition:

Saturday Matinee: The Lightning Thief

SOME HEROES ARE MADE AND SOME HEROES ARE BORN OF THE GODS...

percy jacksonYou have to be living under a rock if you are not aware of the extremely popular teen fantasy series of books, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The first book, The Lightning Thief, begins the story of a young teenage boy with ADHD who is having trouble in school and staying out of mischief until he finds out he is the son of the old Greek god, Poseidon. This sets off chains of events in which a young Perseus Jackson is framed by an unknown villain for stealing Zeus’ prized and powerful lightning bolt. A variety of monsters, including a Minotaur from Greek mythology, are after the young hero for the bolt; and to make matters worse Percy’s mom is being held for ransom in the underworld by Hades himself. Percy’s only hope is to train and learn to use his demigod abilities in a camp for demigods. In short, he is aided by friends, Grover (a satyr by the way) and demigod Annabeth, daughter of Athena. The trio embarks on a quest to save not only Percy’s mom but stop an impending war of the Greek gods.

Please join us in August for the Saturday Matinee presentation of the movie adaption of bestselling author, Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief. This fantasy is a perfect mix of action/adventure and an odd sense of humor. So please bring the family and we will bring the popcorn. For information about this event please ask our staff or check out the Pratt calendar.
