Song Yet Sung Book Discussion

Saturday, September 19, twelve people joined together in a lively book discussion of James McBride's Song Yet Sung, the Maryland Humanities Council One Maryland/One Book title for 2009.  Everyone enjoyed reading and discussing the book which takes place on Maryland's Eastern Shore in the 1850s and revolves around a slave prophetess' visions of the future, her escape from a nearby plantation, and her involvement with the Underground Railroad and two slave catchers.

We are all looking forward to seeing Mr. McBride at the Baltimore Book Festival on Sunday September 27!

The Silk Road

Saturday, September 12 Roland Park was pleased to host Mariska (aka Maria Drumm) who gave an absolutely lovely slide presentation and talk about her recent travels along the Silk Road. In one hour, she took us from China to Samarkand. We hope we can get her back to finish the journey to Venice!

In the meantime, consider one of the following books to whet your appetite.
