More About Us
Friends of the Light Street Branch
Through the years the Friends of the Light Street Branch
have made significant changes to the library. The group has purchased a book
drop, given $500 to enhance the children’s book collection and has
enthusiastically and financially supported branch programs including the
National Library Week Celebration, and Holiday Open House. They fundraise by sponsoring two annual book
sales, one in the autumn and the other in the spring. The Light Street Friends
meet monthly on the second Thursday at 6:15pm. Meetings are open to all. New
members are always welcome. For more information call the library at
Live Music Programs
One Saturday each month the Light Street branch is a venue
for live music. You can enjoy the
sounds of many styles of music from jazz and blues to Cajun, rock & roll
and Celtic, contemporary choral, honky-tonk, classical and ballads, too.
Mother Goose Baby Steps
This program for children ages 0-2 is by far the cornerstone
of Light Street’s popular programming. Children, their mom’s and caretakers turn out on Wednesdays at 10:15am
to be regaled with stories, music and movement. It is followed at 11:15am by Preschool Leaps
for children ages 3-5.
Monthly teen programs include Wii Gaming , discussing teen
fiction and creating Guerilla Art!
The Light Street Branch's book discussion
group, "Book Club," presents an opportunity for adults to choose and
discuss notable fiction and nonfiction reading selections. The
discussion is well-informed and lively. Please call the library for meeting dates and the title of the book being discussed.
