In the 1920s, Harlem was home to some of the best black writers, artists, actors and musicians. These individuals influenced and reinforced each other's work, bringing to light material that might have otherwise remained obscure. The material created by this movement represents and illustrates a thriving, growing cultural capital - it is an impressive body of work and a document of a special place and time.
