Our Commitment

Message From Our Chief of Equity & Fair Practice, M'Balu Bangura

Pratt Library is committed to advancing equity within its workforce, service-delivery, and community engagement. Combating institutional racism and advancing racial equity in the Library and beyond is at the forefront of Pratt's vision. We recognize the importance of embracing diversity in all its forms, ensuring equity in access to resources and opportunities, and fostering an inclusive environment for all patrons and staff members. Our library system has always strived to be a safe haven for individuals from all walks of life, irrespective of their background, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, ability, or socioeconomic status. We firmly believe that diversity is our strength and that by embracing it, we enrich our community and ensure the provision of equal opportunities for all.

The road to equity requires a long-term commitment to learning, the courage to engage in difficult conversations, and the willingness to have a fresh perspective. We can achieve equity when structural barriers are dismantled, and opportunities to reimagine bringing the margins to the center are a focal point. Together, let's create a world where diversity is celebrated, equity is the norm, and inclusion is the foundation of our society.

“At the Pratt, our business is access. That access may come in the form of a book, a website, or maybe a person. We find the resources to help people achieve their goals.”

Meghan McCorkell — Chief of Marketing, Communications, & Strategy

“Building community, collections and services is what we do, providing equitable access to these resources is Pratt's responsibility.”

Darcell Graham — Vice President of Public Services
