Photocopying & Low Resolution Scans
Special Collections provides its customers with several different photographic and digital services, including photocopies, low resolution scanning, and high resolution digital scans for use in published work
All duplication requests will be reviewed by Special Collections staff. Use of any copyrighted work beyond fair use must first have written permission from the rights owner. It is the sole responsibility of the customer to determine Fair Use and obtain any necessary permissions. The sale of a reproduction by the Enoch Pratt Free Library does not constitute permission to display, distribute, or publish, the material.
Materials will be photocopied by Special Collections staff. Copies are 10 cents per page for black and white photocopies, 20 cents for color. Payment must be made at the circulation desk in the Central Hall. Some materials are too fragile to be copied, or may require additional time (24 hours) to properly handle the scanning.
Digital cameras are allowed in the reading room for research purposes only. Permission must be requested from the Special Collections librarian, and staff will take into consideration condition and copyright considerations before granting permission.
Low Resolution Scanning for Research
Low resolution scans (175 ppi) are available for purchase for personal research only. Files will be emailed to customers within 3-5 business days. Cost is $10.00 per scanned item, and some materials may be unavailable for scanning due to condition or copyright considerations.
Rights & Permissions
Step 2: You will receive a permission form and invoice that includes any relevant fees and the Library's Conditions for Use. Signing and returning this form indicates that you agree to follow the Enoch Pratt Free Library’s Conditions for Use. Payment of all applicable fees must be received before orders are processed. Checks and money orders are to be made out to Enoch Pratt Free Library.
Step 3: Turnaround time for original scanning or digital photography is 2-4 weeks from receipt of prepayment, for orders of existing images it is 1-2 weeks. The standard image provided is a 600 ppi TIF file, however resolutions may vary depending on the size of the original. Resolution will never be less than 300 ppi. Delivery will be made by email or ftp transfer at no additional cost. CD/DVDs sent through regular mail will require an additional fee.
If at any time you need help with this process, you can call the Special Collections Department at (443) 984-2451.
