COVID-19 Closure and Library Policy Updates

Last updated: June 1, 2020

Pratt Library's Road to Reopening

Our Road to Reopening is being planned in phases. The timeline will be updated as we continue to get guidance from health officials.

Pratt Library Closed for Coronavirus Prevention

All Pratt Library locations closed to the public at 5pm on Friday, March 13. Libraries are naturally places that people congregate, which makes it difficult for us to support social distancing. We know that people rely on our libraries, and this is an incredibly difficult decision.

The Pratt Library will continue to evaluate its response to COVID-19 with the guidance of health officials. We will continue to look for innovative solutions to provide service to our community. Customers can stay up to date on any changes to library services through our website. You can also follow the Library on Facebook and Twitter for the latest.

Temporary Policy Changes

During the library closure, we have made the following updates to our policies:

  • All items that had been due back between March 13 and June 15 have a new due date of July 27. Standard due dates will apply to any materials borrowed through Sidewalk Service. Materials borrowed through Books By Mail will have a standard loan period of 6 weeks.
  • Customers planning to use Sidewalk Service or Books By Mail may begin returning materials to our contact-free book drops on June 15. All other customers may keep their materials until their new due date.
  • Customers needing an extension on their due dates may contact their local branch. Extensions on interlibrary loans may not be allowed.
  • Customers will not be referred to our collection agency during the library’s closure.
  • Any library cards due to expire will remain active during the closure.

Extended Borrowing Privileges for Downloads and Streaming Media

  • Kanopy: temporary checkout limit: 15 per month for all other Kanopy titles.
  • Hoopla: temporary checkout limit: 15 per month.
