The Southeast Anchor Library recently hosted a delegation of librarians from Colombia on the first stop of their tour of American libraries sponsored by the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. These librarians work in academic and public libraries in different cities in Colombia, such as Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena. During their two week visit to the U.S., they were going to visit libraries in multiple cities, such as Cleveland and Indianapolis.>

Librarians from Colombia and Pratt Staff

During their Baltimore visit, we gave them a tour of the library and answered their many questions about our collections and the services we provide in our community. They also shared how libraries operate in Colombia, and it was fascinating to learn how libraries in our two countries are similar and how they are different. For a bit of fun, we demonstrated our Buena Casa, Buena Brasa storytime program for them, and we loved that they kicked off their shoes, sat on the floor, and enjoyed the songs and rhymes with us!

We hope to continue our exchange of information and ideas with our new friends, and we’ve even been invited to come visit them in Colombia!

The culture exchange in between countries is very interesting, promoting the finer points of Enoch Pratts Library to this group from Colombia was excellent, Colombia located in South America where has regions of diverse and fascinating culture offering more than just sun, sand and sea, it would be an enjoyable journey for the Enoch Pratt Free Library Staff.

Great work Southeast Library. It looks like the Columbian Librarians had a great time and they can go back home with lots of good information about our library.
