Marley and Me bigInspite of all of the high tech gadgets, gizmos and what-cha-ma-call-its around for our comfort and joy, the dog still remains man's best friend. Loyal to a fault, the dog has been known to save lives, comfort the sick, bring companionship to the lonely, and much, much more.

Dogs are able to understand an abundance of words and they respond to many of our commands. A good example of the dogs ability to communicate positively with humans, is Pratt Library's Paws to Read program. In this awesome program, children and dogs come together at different library branches to listen to stories. Dogs are also used to aid the disabled, sniff out cancer, track down felons and to star in movies and television shows.

There have been many books written about man's best friend. One such book, Marley and Me by John Grogan, is the true story of a lovable labrador retriever named Marley. Now Marley is a dog that is not without his faults. He's large and he is clumsy. He is also terrified of lightning and he can destroy a room in the blink of an eye. Every time the Grogans think that they have had just enough of Marley's antics, he does something so amazing that they fall madly in love with him all over again. Between the covers of this book you will find laughter, love, tenderness and sadness. You will laugh until you cry and cry until your tears turn to laughter.

Marley and Me is more than a book about a dog. It is a book about how a dog raises a family through their turbulent years. It is a book about a dog that loves and understands people. Marley is a true people whisperer.
