BALTIMORE – The Enoch Pratt Free Library is pleased to announce a gift of $475,000 from former Pratt patron who later became a career librarian, Margaret S. Peterson.

“We are so grateful for Ms. Peterson’s generous gift,” said Carla D. Hayden, Chief Executive Officer of the Enoch Pratt Free Library. “Her love for books and libraries all began at the Pratt Library. Growing up in West Baltimore, she considered the library her second home and spent countless hours at the Central Library and several neighborhood branches.”

In addition to the gift to the Pratt, Margaret Peterson also left $475,000 to the Baltimore County Public Library. Ms. Peterson worked at BCPL beginning in 1963 and worked in their Reisterstown, Catonsville and Pikesville branches. She retired in 1986.

“Her love for books and reading translated to a library career that all began at the Pratt,” said Hayden. “Her gift has a created a legacy that will also inspire generations of children and adults in Baltimore.”
