What is Summer Break Baltimore?

Summer Break Baltimore is a fun, free program for all ages that encourages literacy and learning in our community.

When does it begin and end?

Summer Break Baltimore takes place June 1 through September 4.

How does it work?

Once you register for Summer Break Baltimore, you will receive a scratch-off card and Welcome Box that contains a T-shirt, a book, a bookmark, and a calendar of events for the month of June. You will also be eligible to receive a July Box and August Box. Each box will have a book, gift(s), and a calendar of events. You will also have the option to select which genre of book you want each month. Boxes are available while supplies last.

When you register you will have the opportunity to tell us if you want your remaining boxes mailed to you, but we encourage you to come to a library location to pick up your box so we can meet you!

In addition to getting the free monthly box, participants are automatically eligible for weekly prize drawings. Each participant will receive a scratch-off card with suggested activities. Each completed scratch-off area will earn you one point, once the card is turned in. The more activities you do, the more chances you have to win a weekly prize drawing. There is one drawing per age group each week beginning June 14. Winners will be notified by the library to coordinate prize pick-up. Participants can win up to two times.

Do I need to be a Baltimore City resident to participate?

You do not need to be a Baltimore City Resident to participate, however, we will only be mailing boxes to Baltimore City addresses. Customers are welcome to come to any library location to pick up a box.

Where do I sign up?

Customers can sign up at any library site or online.

Do I need to have a library card?

No, but it's a great opportunity to sign up for one!

If I have outstanding library fees can I still participate?

No, but the parent or guardian does have to fill out information for each child to get a box.

Can I swap items in my boxes?

No, box contents can't be customized. Boxes are pre-packaged and labeled with contents, and are available while supplies last.
