It’s been a pretty great summer full of reading and fun at the Pratt Library! Not only did we offer loads of great programming for kids from magic shows to live music, but we also saw lots of books and time spent reading: over 170,000 books or hours!

National Aquarium

The grand finale of prizes was 4 tickets to the library’s special night at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. 12 winners from each branch were chosen at random from all the readers who read 8 books/hours over the summer (every 8 read earns an extra entry in the raffle!). The best part is that the Aquarium is closed to the general public and open just to the lucky (and hard-working readers) from the branches.

JacobThis past Thursday night, nearly 700 children and their families poured into the Aquarium to walk around and see the exhibits (like the new Blacktip Reef shark exhibit), enjoy a 4D movie, and snag a sweet treat on the way out. The entire event and all the goodies are completely free to the winners and their families.

All children who read 8 books/hours over the summer were treated to a special party at their library which included a raffle for Orioles and Maryland Science Center tickets. In addition, prizes were collected along the way including a free t-shirt. You can see Jacob here with his spoils: a rubber ducky and the "Dig Into Reading" t-shirt.

Congratulations to all of the Summer Reading: Dig into Reading participants and prize winners. We’re already looking forward to Summer Reading 2014: Fizz, Boom, Read!
