Teen Advisory Committee RST 1The teen population is fired up and ready to get busy at the Reisterstown Road Branch with new and innovative ideas to serve teens and the community. After considering many ideas from teen patrons and interactions between them and library staff, the light bulb clicked that we need teen advocates. What better way to increase teen involvement then to have teen input? The Teen Advisory Club, affectionately known as TAC, is creating positive interactions amongst neighborhood youth, developing leadership skills, and a safe place for teens to come and feel that their voice is heard, respected, and needed.

Teen Advisory Committee RST 2Although this group is in its beginning stages, it’s definitely rewarding and promises to be beneficial to future library endeavors. TAC member Jerdene Forbes, a senior at Baltimore City College High School had this to share; "To date I’ve only attended two meetings, but it was very interesting and informative. The people that were there were really open and friendly. We discussed many topics that are important to us as youth and it helps. I look forward to continuing with the group because I know that I will grow from this experience along with the other members, my new friends."

The experience of TAC is more than an advocacy group for teens it’s a safe haven where members can build friendships, exchange stories and experiences, inspire, encourage, support, and grow. Only time will tell what direction TAC will head in but for now we’re under construction building a solid path for many to follow.
