Liz Sundermann-Zinger

Executive Director of External Affairs & the Central Library lsundermann@prattlibrary.org

Liz Sundermann-Zinger joined the Pratt Library in February 2022 as Chief of the Central Library and State Library Resource Center. In 2025 her role expanded to include providing legislative and other external liaison duties.

While in this role, Liz and her team have launched and expanded the Artist in Residence and Writer in Residence programs, launched an adult creative space, opened the DeWayne Wickham Room of Journalism, and created portable, museum-quality exhibits on a number of historical topics that rotate among Pratt's branches as well as libraries throughout the state. She has participated on the statewide teams that worked to draft and pass Maryland's Freedom to Read Act and worked collaboratively to successfully pass legislation to fund the State Library Resource Center at increasing levels across the next five years and helped nearly double the amount of capital funding provided to Pratt by the General Assembly. She is working with the CEO and leadership team to ensure that all of the elected officials across Maryland understand the impact of the services that Pratt provides! Liz serves as the Chair of the Maryland Library Association's Legislative Panel.

Previously, Liz was on the leadership team of Baltimore County Public Library and served as the State Data Coordinator and Youth Services Coordinator at the Maryland State Library Agency, where she overhauled the annual Public Library Survey processes and led many successful statewide technology and early learning education initiatives. She previously held other roles at the Pratt, and at Northwestern's Library in the Kellog School of Management. Liz holds a Master's Degree in Library & Information Science from Dominican University.

Liz loves the way the team at Pratt listens to the community and responds to the services, materials, and programs that are wanted. When she's not actively working to make libraries more effective, accessible, and meaningful, she enjoys spending time outside or just hanging out with her family.
