What is the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP)?

The Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) began in 1813 when "Congress passed a joint resolution to have copies of the House and Senate Journals as well as other publications be printed and distributed to libraries and institutions outside of the Federal Government.” (www.fdlp.gov).

This was done to ensure that the general public would have fee free access to its Government’s information.

There now exist 1,250 Federal Depository Libraries of various types and sizes in the 50 states and territories in the U.S.

What are the Principles and requirements of the FDLP?
