Information for zip code tabulation areas (not precisely the same as zip codes) from census 2000 is available free online. Data from the 2010 census has also been released.
On the Census Bureau’s web site, there is a step-by-step introduction on how to find zip level data for the 1990 and 2000 censuses, as well as for the 2002 economic census, which gives data for businesses, not population. Zip Code Business Patterns is another Census Bureau product and it is updated annually.
The Urban Information Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis provides an even easier way to look up decennial census zip code data. Use the following links: 1990 census, 2000 census or 2010 census. Remember that zip code boundaries change over time.
