Business Center Newsletter
The Fall 2016 is upon us and the Business Center has a few points of interest for those who are either in the process of writing a business or marketing plan or are looking to update their already extant plans. Business and marketing plans are living documents. They are very similar to strategic plans in that the best and most impactful are those that are modifiable and expansive. Change is a constant and the best plans are subject to be adaptable to those changes.
With that said, there are two new programs scheduled for early Fall 2016 designed to help those interested in writing a winning business or marketing plan. “Using The Library to Write a Successful Business Plan” will be offered here at Central Library on September 13 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. We will be presenting in the Meyerhoff Children’s Garden or the “Night Room” in the Children’s Department. Be sure to bring a sweater or light jacket as it tends to be a little cool in this room!
We will be presenting on the topic of using the many library resources to research your business plan. Research is an essential step to writing a good business plan. Additionally, the kind of information needed to write a working business plan is not free –and this is where the role of the library comes in to play. We offer relatively free information from 1st rate analytical agencies and information aggregators that is current and insightful.
On October 4th from 6:00 to 7:30pm, we will be offering a new program here at Pratt. “Build Your Marketing Plan at Pratt” is a program that will introduce research resources and methods to those interested in developing a marketing strategy. The resources will mainly cover those that are free to access online. Federal and state resources along with privately operated resources will be covered. This program is a perfect companion to the business plan writing program being presented in September because we will be working from some of the materials covered in that class. Nonetheless, this is also a program that can act as a standalone one. This program will also be held in the Meyerhoff Children’s Garden.
We have also lined up a program, "Manage Your Money: How Budgets, Savings, and Credit Affect Your Future Choices," that will be presented by the folks over at the Latino Economic Development Center covering methods on how to build a good credit history and how to create a household budget. They will discuss how to create and keep a spending and savings plan. They will also share tools and strategies to reduce your expenses and increase your income. This program will be presented at Central Library in the Meyerhoff Children’s Garden on September 20 from 6:15 to 7:30pm. Remember, bring a light sweater or jacket as this room can get chilly.
We hope you’ve had a great summer and we look forward to seeing you in the Fall!
