Job and Career Information Center Newsletter
Greetings,
The past couple of months I've offered a lot of advice for how to use networking in your job search. If you are still working on making networking a part of your job search, I can also recommend the following free books and websites from the Enoch Pratt Free Library!
HELLO, My Name is Scott
What if you decided to wear a nametag every day for the rest of your life? Scott Ginsberg has been living that reality since 1999 and shares his lessons about approachability and networking.
Confident Networking for Career Success and Satisfaction by Gael and Stuart Lindenfield.
A networking book for both extroverts and introverts that will help develop skills to introduce yourself with confidence. Learn more about building and nurturing a network of relationships.
Work the Pond by Darcy Rezac.
Introduces a different networking approach – “What can I do for you?” – that can help make networking easier and more successful. Examples of how to network successfully, as well as sample business card designs, can help make networking less intimidating.
I hope these resources are useful for your job search!
Best,
Rebecca Sullivan

Are you confused about your next career choice? There are many tools to help assess your skills and interests and match you with potential career paths. Career Link offers a number of resources for job seekers, including tools for career assessment.
On Careerlink.com under the Student section at the top of the page, there is a link for Assessments. This includes two guides: “Hue Are You” and “Discover your Career Strengths.”
“Hue Are You” uses ranked groups to select one of four colors (gold, blue, orange, and green) that each has a unique personality type with possible career options. The career options give detailed information about the profession, labor trends, and required skills and experience.
The second assessment “Discover Your Career Strengths” is based on the work of Dr. John Holland and his guide called the Self-Directed Search. This assessment helps list career options based on activities or subjects you might enjoy, then it loosely classifies into six different group codes: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. Few people just fit into one code type; most blend two or more types. Each code then links to a list of career options with the links to more information on each career.
Whether you are trying to enter a new career path or just thinking about a career change, career assessment tools are great resources for making that transition a success!
