Experiences Out of This World

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to look from space?  How the sun, the planets, and the stars were formed?  Astronauts have traveled into the outer space in spacecrafts to explore the world from above and beyond. Space exploration began on October 4, 1957, and the Soviet Union launched the first artificial satellite to orbit Earth on this day.  Yuri A. Gagarin, a Soviet cosmonaut, was the first human being to travel in space on April 12, 1961.

Neil Armstrong, a U.S. astronaut, was the first person to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969.  Visit National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to explore images, videos and interactive features from the unique perspective of America’s space agency from right here on earth.  And, don’t forget to view a screening of "Apollo 13: To the Edge and Back" that will be screened at the Herring Run Branch on December 17th from 6-7 pm.

Pimp My Book Cart

Herring Run Branch’s own mini book cart was entered into the Pimp My Bookcart competition sponsored by Smith System in partnership with an online library-themed comic strip Unshelved to see who can best pimp, trick, or otherwise improve a standard book cart.  The mini book cart is making a statement saying that as the materials in the library dwindle, so should the size of the book carts.
