consists of materials in most media. The following is a brief outline of the items available to library patrons.

The collection, approximately 45,000 volumes, includes fiction and non fiction, detailing all aspects of the African American experience.

Biography and Query Files

Provides subject and name access to information in the vertical files, periodicals and books. This index helps locate information stored in the department's vertical files.

Vertical Files open 

Vertical Files

Contains more than 57,000 clippings from local newspapers as well as brochures, letters, obituaries, pamphlets, playbills, political campaign leaflets and more. A list of the subjects covered in the vertical files can be found on the following pages, split up into A-C, D-L, M-R and S-Z.

 
Microfilm Reader Small 

Microform Collection

Microfiche and microfilm provide access to materials and information that is often rare and or difficult to locate. These include historical newspapers, individual and organizational papers, and rare books.

Periodicals & Newspapers

Includes current and historic titles that examines and records events about African Americans and their communities. This collection includes: The Afro American newspaper, Crisis, Ebony and Muhammmed Speaks.

Contains pictures, posters, postcards and illustrations depicting African Americans and African American life.
