Dovie

Dovie Thomason is an internationally respected and award-winning storyteller, recording artist and author. Her love of the stories of her Native culture, first heard from her grandmother and father, set her on a path to listen and learn and share the stories---to give other people a clearer understanding of the often misunderstood, often invisible, cultures of the First Nations of North America. For over twenty years, she has shared the stories of her Plains Apache and Lakota ancestry: from NASA and the National Science Foundation to Headstart’s traditional culture programs on Indian reservations. She helped bring storytelling back to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London and was featured on the BBC’s Millenium Project and in Ireland and Northern Ireland since the Peace Talks of 1997. She is a popular and respected voice at major festivals from The National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee, to international festivals in Ireland, Wales and Belgium. Her love of the spoken word, in story and lecture, has captivated audiences at extended engagements at the Smithsonian’s Discovery Theater, Wolf Trap, The Kennedy Center and The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Poetry Festival as well as universities, libraries and museums. Dovie Thomason
