This visual tour de force from director Ron Fricke and producer Mark Magidson -- creators of Baraka (1992) and Chronos (1985) -- was filmed in 70-millimeter film over five years in twenty-five countries on five continents. Samsara, which is the Buddhist term for the cycle of death and rebirth to which the material world is bound, transports us to the varied worlds of sacred grounds, disaster zones, industrial complexes, and natural wonders. Taking the form of a "nonverbal, guided meditation," Samsara takes viewers on a physical and spiritual journey across the world, illustrating the connection between humanity and nature with images that are both stunningly beautiful and thought-provoking.
Directed by Ron Fricke, 2011, 99 minutes
