Henry Jaglom, a Hollywood outsider, is known for his combining narrative film and personal documentary in a unique way. He doesn't actually star in Festival, (as he does in many of his films, e.g. Always, Eating, BabyFever); but Festival is definitely characteristic of Jaglom's oeuvre.
Greta Scacchi plays an actress who's written a play and wants to direct it. She has her eye on veteran actress Millie (Anouk Aimee) to star. Millie's ex, Viktor, (Maximillian Schell) is a has-been director who's looking for someone to finance a film. A young starlet, Blue (Jenny Gabrielle), observes all of this with wonder, as her life changes. Many notable film figures who were attending the festival make cameo appearances.
Festival in Cannes was filmed entirely during the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. This year's festival is taking place (May 15-16) as we screen this film, so sit back and pretend that you're there.
(Directed by Henry Jaglom, 2002, United States, 99 min,. color, PG-13)
