Here at the Pratt Library, we often ask program attendees to provide feedback on their experience and let us know how we are doing. The feedback for the Free Family Flicks series has been overwhelmingly positive and a lot of respondents have been asking for some live action films to be shown as well as the traditional animated features. In 2014, the Free Family Flicks series will launch a mix of animated and live action films for the celebration of the 5th year anniversary of the series. For now, in this month of September, the Free Family Flicks series is proud to present Oz The Great and Powerful. This is a live action film.

Come down to the Enoch Pratt Free Central Library at 2pm this Saturday, September 14th, to watch Oz The Great and Powerful starring James Franco as Oz the magician. This screening is part of the library’s Free Family Flicks series, the once-a-month film series for the whole family that shows in Wheeler Auditorium.

Oz MovieWhen Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot: fame and fortune are his for the taking. That is, until he meets three witches, Theodora, Evanora, and Glinda, who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into a great and powerful wizard, but into a better man as well.

The movie was directed by Sam Raimi in 2012, is 130 minutes long, rated PG, and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The movie features James Franco, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams.
