On Saturday, July 29th, the EPFL Waverly Branch Friends Group held a Book Sort and Pizza Social. The Book Sort was a volunteer run event organized by Ann Giroux of the Waverly Friends. Volunteers helped dig through countless boxes of donated books and media to determine what should be sold to the community at the Waverly Branch’s BookFest scheduled for September 8. The BookFest is the Waverly Friends annual event promoting literacy in the community.

Books that were not kept for the book sale were donated to the Book Thing. The Waverly Friends provided pizza and snacks for all volunteers, and volunteers had the opportunity to take home any discarded books and media! I was happy to take home a book about the history of baseball for my dad, a North Carolina travel guide that will be helpful during an upcoming trip, and an art history textbook.
I encourage you to apply to be a member of the Enoch Pratt Free Library Volunteer Corps if you are interested in volunteering to help at special events at the Central Library or your local branch. Volunteer Corps members are contacted on an as needed basis to help at events such as the Waverly Bookfest.
Also, don’t forget to mark your calendar for the Waverly BookFest on September 8! This year’s BookFest will feature free face painting, balloon sculpting, crafts, and stories from 10am-1pm, Poetry in Community will offer a program from 1-3pm, free book appraisal from 2-3pm, and silent auction, book sale and bake sale all day long!
