Have you heard about Summer Reading at the Pratt Library but you're not sure what to read next? Well, you're in luck. Our librarians have compiled book recommendations for all ages, from babies and toddlers of the read-to-me age to adults and everyone in between.
The reading list for adults can be found in our Pratt Picks section of recommendations but with a special twist: it's a selection of both fiction and nonfiction Nighttime Reads for the 2012 Summer Reading adult theme, Between the Covers. From humor to horror to memoirs, there's a broad range to choose from, and each preview links directly to that book in our online catalog so you can see what's available or place books on hold to pick up.
For kids and teens, there are five recommended reading lists by age group, also linked directly to those books in our catalog. You'll probably notice more nighttime-themed books than usual there too, to go with this year's themes of Dream Big, Read! for children, and Own the Night for teens.
As a bonus to complement the online reading lists, anyone can print out their own beautiful bookmarks featuring original artwork by Baltimore city kids & teens. Just click the "printable bookmark" links on that same page, then fold it in half to see the recommended reading list on one side and the artwork on the other. The artwork is by the winners of our annual bookmark design contest, held at all Pratt Library locations. This year's winners were from the Reisterstown Road, Govans, Waverly, and Edmondson Avenue branches.
You can admire all the detail of the magic marker, crayon, and pencil strokes that were used in the bookmark designs on Flickr, but be sure to visit the Summer Reading List Bookmarks page for the printable PDFs and online lists of books in our catalog. Happy reading!
