This past Saturday, we held our first ever live “What Do I Read Next?” event at the Central Library to kick off our 2012 Adult Summer Reading Program. People in the audience shared the latest titles they had read, and our esteemed panel of librarians provided recommendations of additional titles they might like.
While we talked books and had some laughs with our audience members in Central Hall, our friends on Facebook and Twitter got in on the fun, too. In keeping with this year’s Adult Summer Reading theme of “Between the Covers”, the staff at the event wore their pajamas, including our CEO, Dr. Carla Hayden.
The 90 minute session went by quickly, and we’ll be compiling a list of all the recommendations and posting it to our website. In the meantime, we thought we’d share a few of the recommendations that got the audience buzzing:
The book that has everyone talking is, of course, Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. If you need something to read while you’re on the LONG hold list for this, you can try one of these titles:
“Game of Thrones” is one of the most highly watched series on television these days, and we do own the entire series of novels by George R.R. Martin! If you love epic fantasy, you might like:
Finally, Dr. Hayden shared three books she is recommending this summer:
Don’t forget to fill out an entry form for each book you read this summer to be entered in our Adult Summer Reading raffle drawings! We’ve got some fun prizes including an invitation to a luncheon with Dr. Hayden and gift certificates to local restaurants, shops, and attractions, and we’ll be awarding one grand prize this year, a Nook eReader.
As librarians, one of our goals is to help connect people with books, so a big thank you to all the readers who participated in our inaugural event, both in person and online. Happy summer reading to all!
