If you visit our homepage this week, you’ll see one of five images featured at the top, with the caption “View Maryland’s history at MDCH.org”. I created these images after working with our Digitization Unit to totally revamp the web interface for Maryland Digital Cultural Heritage (MDCH), launched in March.

In searching for cool old images to bring to light some highlights of the digital collections there, I found so many interesting scenes from the history of Baltimore and all around Maryland that I was asked if we could share a few on Prattlibrary.org as well.
Photos of people and street scenes are compelling to me because I can picture real scenes in a particular time and place, especially if it’s an area I’m familiar with. My take on the homepage images in rotation now:
These are just a few of my favorites that happen to fit the size and shape of our homepage banner image, but there are thousands more to search for or browse by collection. If you have a favorite item on MDCH.org, please copy the “Reference URL” link at the top of the item’s page and share the link here as a comment.
